The
Consumer Genetics
Education Network
(CGEN) Project
is a 5-year project
designed to
- increase
awareness
of genetic
information
in underserved
and
underrepresented
groups
of people,
and
- increase
access
to appropriate
genetics
education
programs
and
services
for
all.
Using a community-based approach, the March of Dimes is joining together four
communities across the US to create genetics education materials that will be
used to:

assist families
to make good health
decisions
-
feel more comfortable
discussing health
matters with their
families and doctor
-
understand and use
genetic services
-
make lifestyle changes
that reduce their
risk of disease
The National
Human
Genome
Center
at Howard
University,
located
in Washington,
DC
is a resource
for genomic
research
on African
Americans
and other
groups
of people
from the
African
Diaspora.
The vision
of the
NHGC is
founded
upon Howard
University’s
mission
of providing
leadership
for America
and the
global
community
in the
critical
areas
of education,
health,
and social
justice.
